Traction is a non-invasive treatment method in physiotherapy that reduces pain by stretching the spine of the vertebrae apart, reducing the pressure on the discs and nerve branches, thereby increasing blood circulation, reducing pain, stabilizing or correcting the position of the vertebrae in the spine.
Considering that the required force must be applied in a sufficient amount (specified and controlled), in the right direction, and for the right duration, traction devices are used in physiotherapy to apply this force in order to move joints and stretch soft tissues. Traction is usually used to stretch the cervical or lumbar areas. In this method, the patient is placed in a bed that has special facilities for stretching the spine, and according to the type of stretching (neck or lumbar) needed, the relevant slings are tied to the patient.
Then the traction rope is connected to the slings and by pulling the ropes by the device with a specific force, the desired traction force is applied.
